John Degenkolb sixth after break stays clear in Tour de Suisse

June 13th , 2013
John Degenkolb has sprinted to sixth place in the sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse behind a break of four who’s lead was never threatened by the bunch behind.
Team Argos-Shimano took up the reins towards the finish to lead out John but with a gap of over 13 minutes with 20km to go, the break was never going to be caught. John finished second in the bunch kick, over ten minutes behind stage winner Gregory Rast (Radioshack – Leopard).
The break took a while to establish itself with several attacks early on from riders wanting to be in the move on a stage where profile favoured an attacking rider. As a result, when it finally did pull clear it was let go and no concerted chase was made behind.
“It was a strong race by the boys and powerful lead out by the team,” said coach Aike Visbeek. “John came in sixth just behind Peter Sagan (Cannondale). There were four of our guys with John at the finish which shows that the train is working and is getting up to full speed.”
There are just two road stages left in this Tour de Suisse now before Sunday’s concluding individual time trial.
